How does the therapy process work?
Our sessions will usually be delivered via Zoom on a weekly basis, unless otherwise advised or requested.
Each session is approximately 50 minutes long. I provide a complimentary 15-minute 'get to know me' session during which we can engage in a video call to become acquainted.
This enables you to familiarise yourself with me before making a financial commitment to our sessions. After the 15-minute call, you will then book in a 50-minute session via the online booking form.
In the first session, we discuss your current difficulty, set goals for treatment, and discuss treatment approaches and estimated time frame for treatment. We also agree on time and date for the next appointment.
At session 6 and session 12, we usually have a review to see how you are getting on – mainly to ascertain if you are still on track with your goals, also to discuss any new goals for treatment. Want to start your journey?

What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)?CBT is a form of psychotherapy that focuses on the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. It aims to identify and modify negative thought patterns to improve emotional well-being.
-
What types of issues does CBT address?CBT is effective for a range of mental health issues, including anxiety disorders, depression, phobias, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and more. I also work with individuals who have long term health conditions, who struggle with low self-esteem and body image.
-
How does CBT work?CBT works by helping individuals recognise and challenge negative thought patterns, develop coping strategies, and modify behaviours contributing to emotional distress.
-
How long does CBT treatment typically last? The duration of CBT can vary, but it is often a short-term, time-limited therapy. The number of sessions depends on the individual's needs and the nature of the issues being addressed.
-
Is CBT suitable for everyone? While CBT is effective for many, it may not be the best fit for everyone. The suitability depends on individual preferences, the nature of the problem, and the individual's commitment to actively participate in the therapeutic process. During the first session, I will assess your needs and highlight goals for therapy. Based on this, we will be able to ascertain whether CBT Therapy is for you. If not, I will make recommendations.
-
What happens during a CBT session?CBT sessions typically involve discussing current issues, identifying negative thought patterns, setting specific goals, and working collaboratively to develop coping strategies. Homework assignments may be given between sessions.
-
Can CBT be done in a group setting?Yes, CBT can be conducted in individual or group settings. Group CBT offers the opportunity for individuals to share experiences, provide support, and learn from one another. Though at present, I do not offer any group treatments.
-
Are there any side effects of CBT?CBT is generally well-tolerated with minimal side effects. Individuals may, however, experience temporary discomfort as they confront and challenge negative thought patterns.
-
Can CBT be combined with medication?Yes, CBT can be used alone or in conjunction with medication, depending on the nature and severity of the mental health issue. Collaboration between therapists and prescribing healthcare professionals (such as a GP) is common.
